Supervisors: Prof Georgios I. Doukidis, Dr. Katerina Pramatari Starting date: April 2006 Short DescriptionOne of the top IT trends for supply chain performance optimisation is that of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). RFID as an emerging technology gives a great set of improvement opportunities across different dimensions of the supply chain (such as forecasting accuracy, inventory management, distribution traceability processes etc.). However, the value of investment in RFID constitutes a matter of considerable concern and debate for both practitioners and academics alike; meaning that it is essential to recognize to what extent the value of investment in RFID outweighs the potential benefits gained by such an initiative. Therefore, the objective of this research project is to study the impact of RFID technology and real-time data on effective supply chain decision making. More specifically, the suggested research aims at simulating the deployment of RFID technology in selected supply chain operations in order to develop the anticipated process, data and information-sharing environment related to this deployment.
