Stability in a Specialized Supply Chain Setting

Issue No. 61 (April - May 2010)

The stable Supply Chain Network (SCN) configuration, introduced by Ostrovsky [11], is defined on a finite set of agents A that can be divided into k finite disjoint sets, A1 being the set of suppliers, Ak the set of final consumers, and Ai, i={2,3,…,k-1}, the sets of intermediary agents, and asks for a chain stable allocation of the agents. In our current work we present a specialized version of Ostrovsky’s generic framework, and prove that, under this setting, any k-sided SCN can be decomposed to k-1 united SM sub-markets. Moreover, we implement T-algorithm, presented in [11], as a generalization of the Gale-Shapley algorithm [7], and show how an intermediary-optimal solution can be derived, while we prove that the lattice formed by the set of solutions is distributive.

Two research papers co-authored by Dr. Yiannis Mourtos have been presented, after invitation, to “The 11th International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics” (ISAIM 2010), Fort Lauderdale, Florida, January 6-8, 2010. The papers were “A Polyhedral Study of the Alldifferent System” (with D. Magos) and “A Polyhedral Study of the Cumulative Constraint” (with D. Magos and T. Yunes).

Three research papers co-authored by Dr. Yiannis Mourtos will be presented, after invitation, to “The 24th European Conference on Operational Research” (EURO XXIV), Lisbon, July 11-14, 2010. The papers are  included in the “Graphs and Networks” stream and are, respectively, “Characterising odd-hole inequalities related to Latin squares” (with D. Magos), “Non-stable pairs in the Stable Marriage problem and multi-index configurations” (with P. Eirinakis, D. Magos and P. Miliotis) and “11 Methods for proving infeasibility of IP's” (with G. Appa, A. Kouvela and D. Magos).

Prof. Georgios Doukidis was key-note speaker in the 3rd International Symposium on Supply Chain Management & Information Systems (SCMIS2005) that was held in June in Thessalonica, on the subject of: "Supply-Chains of the Future and Emerging Consumer-centric Information Services".

The paper of Prof. Panayiotis Miliotis and two of ELTRUN's researchers Mr. Thomas Kelepouris and Mr William Drakos, titled "The impact of replenishment parameters and shared information being effective supply chain management: Simulating the Bullwhip Effect", won the best paper award in the 3rd International Congress "Supply Chain Management and Information Systems (SCMIS 2005)". The paper refers to a research initiative that was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Katerina Pramatari.

Professor Georgios Doukidis has recently received an invitation to become a member of the publication committee of the International Journal of Enterprise Network Management (IJENM) and the program commitee for the International Union of the Information Resources Management (IRMA 2006) that will be held in Washington on May 2006.

Dr. Konstantinos Chorianopoulos was the opening keynote speaker at the 3rd European Interactive TV Conference 2005 that was held on 30th March - 1st April in Aalborg University (Denmark).

Prof. Georgios Doukidis, Dr. Georgios Lekakos and Dr Konstantinos Chorianopoulos are the local organizing Committee for the 4th European Interactive TV Conference 2006 that will be held at Athens University of Economics and Business on May 2006.

Dr. Katerina Pramatari and Professor Georgios Doukidis' case study "Internet enabled collaborative store ordering: the case of Veropoulos Spar retailer" (that was prepared with Prof T. Evgeniou) will be tought at INSEAD Business School from October 2005.

ELTRUN is a co-organizer (along with 11 more International Research centers and academic institutions) of the 4th International conference on "Supply Chain Management and Information Systems" that will be held on 5-7 July 2006 in National Chung Hsing University (Taiwan). Professor Georgios Doukidis is a co-chair at the conference.
